Czech Republic | St. Martin's Day
St. Martin's day signifies the first half of November in the Czech Republic. It's a traditional feast day where goose and "young wine" is usually found on menus. We took a weekend road trip to Moravia, the southern region of the country. We stayed in the town of Mikulov where St. Martin rode in on a white horse and kicked off the festivities at 11:11 on 11/11. We hopped around to different villages and managed to visit ~10 of the 31 wine cellars in the region. The weekend also included dinner in Brno (the 2nd largest city in Czech Republic), a lovely fall hike along the Iron Curtain on the Austrian border, a quick splash at Aqualand, and a visit to the Lednice Castle. We experienced some snowfall on the way home. What a wonderful way to kick off the new season.
